Ladies?

If our author, William Golding, would've decided to include girls in the plot, there are many things he would've had to change. Most prominently, in my opinion, would be that the non-hunter group would've been a lot larger, because I have the feeling that girls may have kept the situation in line for longer, since they probably would've been less prone to resorting to violence, and hopefully could've talked some sense into some of the boys that joined the hunters. Also, he would have had to give all the girls names, and given them things to do on the island, whether it was doing things with the boys, or them having different jobs, or just creating a new tribe all together, possibly a tribe that knew they might never go home, whereas the hunters probably were unaware at times, but chose to stay because they liked the island and the freedom that comes with it.
